Assignment Briefing: Unit 2 – Networking

The Unit 2 – Networking assignment focuses on designing and implementing a Local Area Network (LAN) for SYNTAX SOLUTIONS, a software company expanding to a new state-of-the-art branch in Matara. The project encompasses the entire network development lifecycle, from network design and architecture to implementation and testing.

 

Project Highlights:

• Design and Implementation: Developed a network architecture for over 150 employees across diverse departments, including Customer Care, Sales & Marketing, Finance, Legal, HR, Developers, and Network Team.
• Technical Objectives:
  • Separate departments using unique subnets.
  • Implement ERP and CRM systems on local servers.
  • Establish high redundancy to eliminate single points of failure.
  • Configure Wi-Fi connectivity for the Sales and Marketing team.
  • Introduce network monitoring and security mechanisms.
• Technologies and Tools:
  • Network Devices: Routers, switches, hubs, and servers.
  • Software: VMware Workstation, Cisco Packet Tracer, Wondershare Edraw Max.
  • Network Services: DHCP, VLANs, DNS, Proxy Servers, Web Servers, Mail Servers.
• Methodology: The assignment involved a step-by-step approach, including:
  • Network Blueprint Creation using modeling tools.
  • Configuration of Network Services such as VLANs, IP Addressing using DHCP, and Router Setup.
  • Testing and Diagnostics using test cases like ping, trace route, telnet, and SSH.
  • Maintenance Schedule design to ensure the network’s stability and performance.

This assignment showcases technical proficiency in network design principles, device configuration, and troubleshooting methodologies, reflecting strong skills in network management and system administration.
